BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger – Continuing the trend of popularity in 2D fighting games is BlazBlue, the spiritual continuation of the Guilty Gear franchise. An incredibly beautiful game to watch in motion, the unique characters and fighting styles accentuate one of the most unique battle systems out there. With an excellent online infrastructure as well, fighting game fans really don’t need to look any further for such a high quality fighting game.
Worth the Price – Let it Drop – Avoid at All Costs

King of Fighters XII – A classic fighting franchise gets redone for the first time….unfortunately, it isn’t nearly as solid as its competition. It’s look, which is 2D animated backgrounds and 2D sprite animation in the foreground. With only half of the characters that fans of the series expect, only 6 arenas to fight in  and a host of balancing issues and terrible online fighting, King of Fighters XII is purely for the SNK enthusiast who get excited by new animations of Terry Bogard.
Worth the Price – Let It Drop ($30) – Avoid at All Costs

Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes – The huge roster of characters in this now classic fighting game is completely unlocked on the get-go, which is great news for people who love one-on-one fighting. The bad news? As of this date, it’s difficult to find a match online. Otherwise, for $15, this game is a steal and worth every point you put into the purchase…that is unless you’re just playing by yourself. Then, you might want to let it drop to $10.

This is turning out to be a huge year for fighting games. Two left are coming in the fall however, Tekken 6 and Tatsunoku vs. Capcom. Let’s see if these games have what it takes to hang with the likes of UFC 2009: Undisputed and Street Fighter IV.

Marvel vs Capcom is considered to be one of the most rare games to find from the previous generation. When the game was released for XBOX, PS2 and Dreamcast, it was limited to one run because Capcom lost the rights to the Marvel Universe at the time of its release.

Brad’s Take: Well, after the police here in my hometown let me out with a warning (and a proper cavity search, ouch), I cannot feel more than jubilation at the fact that one of the most elusive games is coming back for a new generation of gamers to play.

There is the fact that the luster of this game will be diminished though: MvC2 is horribly unbalanced and that Capcom will not change anything to the balance will mean that everyone will use the one unbalanced team in the game:

Yeah, like I’m gonna tell you.

Bryan’s Take: When Brad was getting arrested by the police for his  disorderly conduct, I was in bed sleeping. When I awoke to this news, I too was excited but was able to control myself to not strip while going to work.

This is awesome news and this is a win for the PS3 owners. It’s good that both XBLA and PSN will be getting the game but the fact that the 360 controller is not made for fighting game just hurts. Unless you are willing to spend money on a 360 fighting pad or arcade stick, the game might be frustrating.  The PS3 owners should have a better time with this game but could always do better with an arcade stick for the fighting games they love.

When seeing the video, they say there is online play which is wonderful but what if they did a 3-on-3 match with 6 players. One player from each team will control that player and so when they are tagged in, they need to fight them. The super combos and tags coming in can still only be exicuted by the player who is fighting. I think that could add an extra challenge and have more of a ‘team’ feel for this game.
