Another One Bites The Gib – Dead Space Extraction sells 9K in the month of Sept.
NPD sales Sourcelink: Edge Online
NPD figures being brought to the light by Edge says that in the 5 day window that Dead Space Extraction was released, the sales reached a rather paltry 9,000 units.
Although the timeframe was rather small, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divinich suggests that sales will not go up anytime soon, due to a very lacking marketing campaign by EA.
Brad’s Take: Another mature Wii title…another one that performs poorly in sales. Although Divinich is correct when he says that EA put little money into the game marketing wise, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it wouldn’t succeed.
Dead Space, when released last year, had an impressive marketing campaign that had meager sales to compensate. Same can be said for Mirror’s Edge, which also had a sizable marketing campaign and let to be underwhelming in sales.
The problem here isn’t the sales of mature Wii games…it’s the property of Dead Space and the fact that EA hasn’t done anything to show how different it is from other survival horror games. Extraction had a great chance to be successful….EA just doesn’t know how to market the game for its assets.
Which is a shame…because Dead Space Extraction is really good.
