Yesterday morning, ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks, acquired id Software, developer of such titles as DOOM and Quake. This puts both companies at an advantage: ZeniMax gets some old school credibility, while id has the backing of one of the most influential (and moneymaking) studios in the game today.

However, John Romero had some things to say about the acquisition: saying on his Twitter that it was “disgusting”

Brad’s Take: Seriously, who cares what John Romero thinks nowadays.

Anyway, this acquisition is beneficial for both companies because it gives Zenimax a reliable back catalogue of games while id Software has the power and expertise of Bethesda.

They will act as independent, but this is still a great acquisition.
