Koei/Tecmo may allow Crossover Games…maybe…possibly

The Japanese website Gigazine claims to have scans of the new Nikkei Corporate Quarterly, which states that the newest merger of Koei/Tecmo may be more than just a corporate thing. Andriasang.com translated the article for English consumption with this snippet:

“New Games: Will release games that combine Tecmo and Koei titles. The aim is to reach fans of both.”

The article does not state how many games, franchises or characters will merge into each other’s games.

Brad’s Take: Somewhere in Michigan, Bryan Fleming just had a spring in his step. I can hear him now: “Wow, so I can now play as Ryu Hayabusa in one of those most yawn inducing, carpal tunnel syndrome producing games of all time, Dynasty Warriors?! I’m as jubiliant as Tinker Bell!”*

This bit of new is kind of surprising, since most companies prefer to keep their properties separate to avoid dissolution of bankable IP’s. However, both companies seem to have very similar tastes in games, so this might be the best thing for them both.

I just have one suggestion: Tecmo Bowl and Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

You’re welcome.

* Bryan may not have actually said the entire quote…or he may have just J***ed in his pants.
