COD:WAW MMO D6ed – Infinity Ward steps away from subscription based Call of Duty
With heavy speculation coming en masse, Call of Duty 4’s creative company Infinity Ward steps quickly to shoot it down. After Bobby Kotick, CEO and head exploitator of Blizzard-Activision, teased Morgan Stanley investors on the possibilities of MMOing various Billion dollar franchises, rumors started heavily speculating that the multiplayer for Modern Warfare 2 will be MMO based. This was also exasperated by the introduction of a survey that asked questions about monetizing map packs, weapons or group based operation gameplay.
Robert Bowling, Community Manager of Infinity Ward, shot that idea right in the heart.
“This rumor has absolutely nothing to do with Infinity Ward or our games, including Modern Warfare 2. We would never introduce such a system for Modern Warfare 2 so don’t worry. Multiplayer will always be equal and free for everyone as always.”
Brad’s Take: To be honest, if this were to have happened, I wouldn’t have been surprised, shocked nor really that upset by this. If Infinity Ward were to do this, they would make sure to make it well worth player’s while.
Now, I can definitely see something like this happening for other properties from Activision Blizzard…such as Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero and other highly exploitable franchises.
It’s official: Activision is the new EA.
